Research from “Flowerpaedia: 1000 Flowers and Their Meanings”. I go first by what I want to convey, then I see which flowers come up the most and decide from there what to include.
 Sketching composition. I knew immediately that I wanted to keep this as black/white graphic, creating value with line-work.
 A few reference photos that I used.
 I took the sketch from my sketchbook and blew it up to real scale for reference/transfer of composition.
 I didn’t really know how I was going to paint the board yet, so I started with a rough transfer of the sketch/really just resketched the composition fresh again.
 Before beginning the piece, when I was talking with Matt from Outbreak Boards, he asked, “can you make it look like your printmaking stuff?” So that got me to thinking… I tested it out with success and pained the board with acrylic paint and used my
 Looking back, I could have painted the entire board, then lightly sketch lines on top. BUT YA KNOW….

 Over halfway done. As you can see, the tools and process were really simple. I used Liquitex mars black acrylic paint (no medium), a few brushes, and my one scraping nib.
